Hi, I export my gigs to a Google Calendar. Often, gig times are modified and then I export to my calendar again. When exporting gigs that have modified times and already exist from a previous export, the times are not updated.

Thanks Josh.  I'll check that out.  So to reproduce, for example:

(1) Create a gig.
(2) Use the Google Calendar Export to send it to Google Calendar
(3) Update the gig's time
(4) Use the Google Calendar Export to update it on Google

Result:  The time on Google Calendar is the original time
Expected result:  Time on Google Calendar is updated

Do I have that right?

Hi Josh--

I believe I have fixed the Google Calendar update problem.  Please update your gig (you can just edit and save, you don't have to make any actual changes), run the Google export, and see if the time is now correct.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Help! The Google calendar export feature is resulting in error messages. I have disabled the pop up blocker. Any suggestions? I just input 6 months of dates and really need them on my Google calendar.

Hi Josh--

Sometimes the Google certificate gets stale and it needs to be removed.  I've cleared it out so you can try the Google export again.  You will need to provide access to WheresTheGig.  I'm still going the Google verification so you'll get an app verification warning.  Click the "Advanced" link and "proceed (unsafe)" action.

Another option for syncing to Google Calendar is to use Google's "Calendar from URL" option.  The advantage to this method is that Google will automatically pull information from your WheresTheGig account to keep the calendars in sync.  The disadvantage is that the updates are not immediate; Google polls WheresTheGig once or twice an hour, so there can be a slight lag in the updates on Google's calendar.

To create a Google Calendar from URL:
  1. Click the "Export" link at the top right of the WheresTheGig page.
  2. Select "To Calendar Feed"
  3. Click the [Show Gig Ical Feed] button
  4. Copy the URL (looks like https://wheresthegig.com/perl/WTGRemote_access.pl?cred=XXXXX)
  5. On Google Calendar click the gear icon at the top right
  6. Click "Settings"
  7. On the left-side menu click "Add Calendar"
  8. Click "From URL"
  9. Paste the URL you copied from WheresTheGig into the URL field
  10. Click the [Add Calendar] button.
Note that this creates a new Google sub-calendar.  If you choose this method you can remove the other sub-calendar you previously used for Google exports.

I hope this addresses your issues with Google Calendar.  Please let me know if you're still having problems.

Hi Ethan, I am getting this error when I try to sync my google calendar "This app is blocked

This app tried to access sensitive info in your Google Account. To keep your account safe, Google blocked this access."

I've tried researching a fix and tried all the suggestions but it's still not working out for me. TIA!

Hi Danielle--

Yes.  I'm aware that some users are encountering this.  I recently upgraded the WheresTheGig Google export code to use Google's newest API and I'm working with them to get a "Verified" status on it.   Are you using a MAC?  I think that's what the other people having problems are using (with Safari).  You might try it with Firefox or another browser.  Usually it will give you an "Unsafe" warning but with an "Advanced" link so you can still access the app.

Alternatively, you can use the ICal subscription method, where Google pulls the information from your account. Some users prefer this because it's automatic.  The down-side is that it only does its update a few times an hour so there can be a slight delay between the time you modify your gigs to the time the changes show up on your Google calendar.  This screencast shows how to have Google subscribe to your WhereTheGig ICal service:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEO16ZIhS9A
Note that in the screencast the browser has two tabs open; one to Google calendar and one to WheresTheGig, so it's easy to copy the feed URL.  Get in touch if you need more detail on this.
