As promised - In case you’ve not been notified (but if you have – it doesn’t mention the new hours sought!) herewith all the details as checked with Planning 09/09/10.
RE: 159 Commercial Street London – Part Change of Planning Use from A3 (restaurant) to A4 (bar).
Site: 159 is the former Wani cash & carry; recently ex-Lahori Masala; next door to Hawksmoor (formerly Edge) on the junction of Commercial & Fleur-de-Lis Street. It’s a massive 2 floor venue; under a residential block; adjoining others at No.8 Fleur-de-Lis & at 157 Commercial Street; surrounded by hundreds more homes on all sides.
The Planning Application: Seeks Change of Use - to turn the entire basement (capacity 372) & the front of the ground floor (capacity 184) to A4 bar use. The smaller rear section of the ground floor to be retained as an A3 use, 72 cover restaurant.
Hours of Trading sought: For the 556 total capacity bars - Midday to 2.00am Monday to Saturday; Midday to Midnight Sundays & Bank Holidays. The 72 capacity restaurant – Midday to Midnight right through the week. These details are to be found on the on-line Application Form at the link at the bottom of this email.
Total capacity: This therefore a venue that could hold up to 628 patrons. These figures are as given by the applicant on the submitted Proposed Plans also viewable at the below link.
Concern: The previous business – Lahori Masala was an unlicensed A3 restaurant. Although generally empty it still managed to cause nuisance on a couple of occasions when hosting large weddings! Now we are facing the possibility of this site becoming a huge & late operating bar. We know all the problems that will bring - we all have 1st hand experience. No crystal ball required.
If you share any concerns on the negative impact of this planned change of direction – please send an email or write to the below contact. Given the sheer numbers involved we may even be able to request that the A4 bar use be refused & the existing A3 restaurant only use & residentially amenable hours be retained.
