All Wheelmen – great news during yesterday’s Commonwealth Transportation Board meeting. The decision to give the funds to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation to purchase the rail corridor was rescinded. The process of holding three public information meetings to let the public the results of the Phase III Assessment findings will go forward. It should be a slam dunk for the R2T instead of the RWT as the RWT will cost 4X what the R2T would cost to build; and the RWT will cost 10X the annual maintenance costs of the R2T.
Having said all that, it’s important that we get as many people attending the meetings and filling out surveys or questionnaires in support of the Rail to Trail plan instead of the Rail With Trail plan. Please get the word out!
The date/time/location of the three public information meetings hasn’t been announced yet, but there’ll probably be one in Front Royal for Warren County; Woodstock for Shenandoah County; and Broadway for Rockingham County – but don’t hold me to it.
