Thanks everyone for joining the WheelGoThere mailing list. I know
this has been a comparatively slow start, but I wanted to get a few
things out of the way before we get started. Once I get back in town,
I'm hoping to recruit or at least generate some interest at
BarCampRDU. Then I'm planning to see if I can schedule a meeting that
works for most of you so we can begin to think about a list of
requirements for the project.

In the meantime, here are some links that have been shared so far:

When I did the lightning talk, Drew mentioned and found links to
people in Boston to have a scavenger hunt game engine:
Here's the TED talk: Seth Priebatsch: The game layer on top of the
world
And here's the company: SCVNGR

Justis suggested that the following organizations might have people
who are willing to help:
http://www.trianglegameinitiative.org/
http://cet.waketech.edu/sgd/sgd.htm
http://www.joysticklabs.com/

Jeff Crews found out about something called Diaspora, which looks like
some sort of open source social networking engine:

If you have some additional links or ideas, please post them! :)

Thanks,
Lenore

Lenore,

Would you consider hosting a session at BarCampRDU? Whether it's
specifically about WheelGoThere or not, I suspect you'll recruit more
interested parties that way. Please remember that you don't need to have
a formal presentation or be considered an "expert" in order to host a
session. You simply need enough passion about a given topic in order to
guide a group conversation.

Kind regards,
Justis

The joystick labs people are great. They're very interested in pushing indie game development in the triangle, and may well be able to help develop the gameplay aspects of WheelGoThere.

Diaspora was a response to the facebook privacy fiasco a few months back. They made a lot of noise, but when they released their code some people security audited it and found that it was full of wholes. I don't think basing anything on it would be a great idea.

JC,

Do you know the Joystick Labs people well enough to get them involved?
They have a really snazzy office in the ATC Underground now,
extremely close to my office.

Thanks,
Lenore

Not really, but if we're interested in reaching out to them, I'd be happy to tackle that.
