Greetings from the Cinephile Film Club! This Thursday  at 6.30 p.m. we are screening the film, The Searchers (1956, 119 mins) directed by the great John Ford. The film stars the legendary John Wayne in a memorable role.

From Breaking Bad to Lawrence of Arabia and a lot more in between, The Searchers has influenced several films and filmmakers like George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Jean Luc Godard and many more. Hailed as one of the greatest Hollywood directors of all time, John Ford holds the record for the maximum Oscars for Best Director, 4 of them.

Filmed in Vistavision, this technicolor western is based on the novel of the same name. John Wayne plays Ethan Edwards, a war veteran who is searching for his niece who has been kidnapped. Known for its remarkable locales and film making, critic Roger Ebert found Wayne's character, Ethan Edwards, "one of the most compelling characters Ford and Wayne ever created" and French magazine Cahiers du Cinéma ranked The Searchers number 10 in their list of the 100 best films ever made.
