Greetings from the Cinephile Film Club!
This Thursday, 18th September, at 6:30 pm, Sachin Chatte will host the screening of the Japanese film High and Low (1963, with English subtitles, 141 mins), directed by the master filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, and shot in widescreen.
Based on the novel King's Ransom by Ed McBain, High and Low is one of the greatest thrillers ever made. Toshirô Mifune plays a wealthy businessman who is on the verge of an important deal. One day, he receives a phone call that his son has been kidnapped and a ransom is demanded. He must sell everything to raise the ransom, and that sets in a chain of events, making this one of the most influential thrillers of all time. It was remade in Hindi as Inkaar (1977), and recently, Spike Lee remade it in Hollywood with Denzel Washington.
