This Thursday 22nd May at 6.30 p.m.we are screening the French thriller Z (125 mins, with English subtitles), directed by Costa Gavras.
Based on the Greek novel of the same name by Vassilis Vassilikos, Z is a political thriller directed by the well known Greek filmmaker Costa Gavras. Although it is never specified, the scene of action appears to be Greece where a leader is assassinated but it is passed off as an accident. A photographer and investigating magistrate then uncovers the truth about what actually happened. Even though the film was made way back in 1969, it still holds good now. It is also among those rare films which were nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Picture - Dibakar Banerjee's `Shanghai’ was also inspired by the same novel.
