Greetings from the Cinephile film club!
This Thursday, 19th Feb at 6.30 pm, Sachin Chatte will host a special screening of the iconic silent film, Nosferatu (1922, 90 mins), directed by the legendary F.W. Murnau. The screening will have live music by Martin Melendez and Guy Hershberg.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential films in the history of cinema, Nosferatu was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula. Over the decades, a century in this case, there have been several versions, close to 30, of Dracula and Nosferatu - even as late as 2024. But Murnau's film remains a classic that paved the way for the genre and was at the forefront of German Expressionist cinema. To paraphrase critic Roger Ebert, the film doesn't scare you, but it haunts you with its artistry, ideas, atmosphere, and images.
This silent film will be screened with live music by Martin Melendez, a cellist who studied in Cuba and has played music for this film in the past. The accomplished Pianist Guy Hershberg will be on the synthesizer and Piano.
Non-members can reserve a seat (Rs.200) by filling this form, while members are requested to be there by 6.15 since seating is on first come first served basis.
