Greetings from the Cinephile film club!
This Thursday 29th Jan at 6.30 pm, we are screening the comedy masterpiece Mon Uncle (My Uncle, 1 hr 56 mins, French with English subtitles), directed and starring Jacques Tati.
Although he made only 6 feature films during his career, Tati remains one of the most influential figures - his brand of comedy was like no other. Critic Roger Ebert called him "the great philosophical tinkerer of comedy.."
In this film, Tati reprises his role of Monsieur Hulot, the socially awkward hero coming to terms with the modern world. Even though it was made in 1958, Tati's incisive observation of a modern consumerist society still remains relevant.
