Kriti Film Club

invites you for the screening & discussion of  two documentaries with their film makers!

on 5th May 2012

6.00 pm to 7.00 pm

at S-35 Tara Apartments, Alaknanda

(nearest Metro is Govindpuri)

New Delhi 110019

Summer is here and the film shows continue to beat the sweat out...what better way to celebrate Karl Marx’s birthday (5th May)...and mark Labour Day (1st May) gone by...than these proletarian films! Also, meet and chat with the film makers, some workers and each other.

WHISPERS IN THE NIGHT

16 mins/ Hindi, Bengali (with English sub-titles)

Directed by Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas

Executive Producer: Kriti Team

In every city, is an army of anonymous men and women who brave the scorching blaze of the sun, the chill of winters and the monsoons to guard our lives and property. In the face of increased global security concerns, these security guards belong to a burgeoning industry that is growing annually at a rapid pace.

Whispers in the Night journeys with these security workers as they share their hopes, dreams and disappointments about a job that is both challenging and thankless. At its heart, the film raises concerns about the need to protect the rights of the very people who steadfastly protect us.

RIKSHAWALA

18 mins/ Hindi (with English Subtitles)

Directed by Abhishek Kukreja

Produced by Stick Figure Films

Peddling his way in a mad city rush, he not only gets food for his body, but also discovers something for his soul.  Rikshawala is a self-narrated story of transformation. It exemplifies that in the university called ‘Life’, difficulty is perhaps the harshest teacher, but has most virtuous lessons to impart. As we watch him taking his trips, let’s hope we find inspiration in his journey.

Kriti Film Club is an educational and research oriented initiative of Kriti: a development research, praxis and communication team. We offer an independently financed and informal space for screening documentary films on a whole range of social, development, human rights & environment issues. The whole idea of the KRITI Film Club is to place thought-provoking cinema in a discussion group that will help to deepen understanding on these issues amongst viewers and film-makers. We also serve as a borrowing & distribution space for documentary films from India and abroad.
