Dear Members and Friends:

The Association of the friends of the Coptic Museum in Egypt is pleased to organize visits to Old Cairo sites. The Plan is to visit several sites in four day trips: starting Saturday the 21^st of February, 2015, to be followed by another visit on March 14^th and a third one on April 18th. The 4^th date is not decided yet.

The visits will start at 9h30 in the morning and will end at 2 p.m. We will take 30 minutes of break during which we will have snacks.

The sites we plan to visit are:

Trip 1: Saturday 21^st of February, 2015

·  كنيسة القديسة بربارة The Church of St Barbara

·  كنيسة السيدة العذراء ( قصرية الريحان) The church of the Virgin Mary ( Qasriyet el Rihana)

·  كنيسة مارجرجس – قاعة العرسان The church of St. George ( wedding hall)

·  كنيسة أبى سرجة وواخس. The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus (The church of the Cave)

·  معبد بن عزرا The Ben Ezra synagogue 

·  دير مار جرجس الراهبات The convent of St. George

Trip 2: Saturday March 14^th

·  جامع عمرو The Mosque of Amr ibn el 'As

§  كنيسة أبى سيفين The church of St. Mercurius( Abu Sayfayn )

§  كنيسة الأنبا شنودةChurch of Anba Shenouda

·  كنيسة السيدة العذراء المعروفة بالدمشيرية The church of the Virgin Mary known as the Damshiriya

·  دير أبي سيفين للراهبات Convent so St Mercurius ( Abu Sayfayn)

Trip 3: Saturday  April 18th.

·  كنيسة مارمينا فم الخليج Church of St. Menas (Mar Mina) at Fom el Kaleeg

o  كنيسة السيدة العذراء بابيلون الدرج The church of St. Mary at Babylon al Darg ( steps of Babylon)

o  كنائس فم الخليج Churches at Fom al Khaleeg

o  الطاحونة The mill(used by pope Kirollos)

Trip 4:  To be announced 

·  كنيسة السيدة العذراء (الكنيسة المعلقة) Church of the Virgin Mary ( hanging church al muallaka)

·  حصن بابيلون Fortress of Babylon

·  كنيسة مارجرجس الروماني اليوناني The Greek Orthodox Church of St. George

·  المتحف القبطي The Coptic museum

Guide:

We are very lucky as Father Maximos Al Anthony, who is an expert in the field has agreed to be our guide in all the visits.

Transportation:

Carpooling is recommended. If several persons require transportation from Heliopolis or Zamalek we will organize small buses at cost.

Contributions:

A contribution of L.E.30 per person will be appreciated to cover the cost of snacks. Any entrance fees will be paid by each visitor on the spot.

Attire:

We recommend a respectful decent conservative attire appropriate to the religious sites.

Groups:

Please express your intention to attend as soon as possible as we plan to have a maximum of 30 persons per group. Although we recommend doing the four days it is understandable that some people would not always be available at the set dates. Please make sure to notify us at least a week before each trip if you will not be able to attend.
