I think that Taiwan is a great place to live in as a Westerner, and certainly easier to adapt to than China or even Thailand. However, deep integration seems almost impossible, and it's hard to picture many futures for myself here. One of Taiwan's problems seems to be its self-doubt, which I see as a positive thing about the country. Taiwan also seems to collect a lot of low quality expats (with many notable exceptions), due to the easy ride that foreigners are given and the good money to be made teaching English.
