to What's That Song?
Hey everybody,

I may have a tough one to solve here.
Around 1971-72, I used to hear an instrumental tune I believe on am
radio. (although it could have been on fm too.)

It had a slower tempo, with an electric guitar being the main
instrument playing the melody. The part of the song I remember had
the guitar playing single notes starting two octaves above middle C,
and "walking down". The notes C, B, A G and then goes back up to Bb,
A, G, F. The C,B,A,G notes are played over a C chord, while the Bb,
A, G, F notes are played over Bb chord.

The guitar is played with heavy use of some modulation such as
flanger, or phaser, sort of that warbly, watery sound that was novel
at the time.

I believe the guitar was backed by some sort of orchestra, but I can't
be sure. It could have been just a basic band set up.

Lastly, I believe the station I would hear it on was adult oriented,
i.e. no rock or heavy pop stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

Michael

Michael,

This idea just came to me. Could the song be "Midnight Cowboy" by
Ferrante & Teicher?
