As I mentioned in a previous email, this Shabbos we are making a special Kiddush in honor of the Bar Mitzvah of my second son Yisroel Elimelech and the birth of my second daughter Bracha Shprintza. In honor of the occasion, I wanted to share these essays from my What's in a Word? series:

  • Boys and Girls (Part 1 | Part 2) - נער/נערה, עלם/עלמה, ילד/ילדה, רובה/ריבה, and טלי/טליה.
  • Boys and Bars - About בן and בר.
This past Sunday, my son Elimelech was supposed to have a Bar Mitzvah party in class in school with a classmate of his whose birthday is the same day, but late Motzei Shabbos, the Ministry of Education decided to shut down all the schools. So instead the other boy's family hosted the party in their living room. Turns out, the host R' Yisroel Meir Heller was the brother of my old roommate from YGLA, R' Moshe Heller. Thank you so much to R' Yisroel Meir and his family for making this event happen. Here is my drashah at the event (delivered in Hebrew). On the topic of Kiddush, I wanted to refer my readers to a book review I wrote on the book A Theology of Holiness.

Also, I want to share with you two resources related to sacrifices (the main topic of Parshiyos Vayikra and Tzav):

Argh! I hate it when this happens. It seems like only a few subscribers got last night's email, so I'm resending.
