Glenn Fleishman has written a great deal about security and privacy, especially with mobile devices. His brand-new book, "Keep Safe Using Mobile Tech” <" https://www.takecontrolbooks.com/keep-safe/>, takes that advice in a new direction, showing you the many ways you can use devices you’re likely to have on your person (such as a smartphone or smartwatch) to stay safe in many different senses.
Keep Safe Using Mobile Tech covers both digital threats (such as online abuse, account hijacking, and text message spam) and physical threats (such as theft, domestic violence, and being in a car crash). Your mobile devices can warn you about potential health issues, block abuse, call emergency services, connect with others to ensure you get to your destination, detect stalking by compact trackers, and much more. Glenn walks you through a wide variety of issues and explains both how to prepare your devices in advance and what to do if and when a problem occurs. The book focuses mainly on the iPhone, Apple Watch, and Android phones, but also covers Wear OS watches and, in more limited ways, iPads and computers running macOS or Windows.
Book Cover
Among other topics, this book tells you how to:
  • Prevent abusive, fraudulent, and phishing messages and calls from reaching you.
  • Turn on tracking on your devices, and use it to recover or erase stolen hardware.
  • Prepare for emergencies by setting up medical information on your mobile devices.
  • Use a smartphone or smartwatch to call emergency services if you’re in a car crash or have taken a hard fall.
  • Keep track of heart anomalies through smartwatch alerts and tests.
  • Keep loved ones informed about your whereabouts, and alert them if you’re not where you expect to be.
  • Deter stalking from AirTags and other Bluetooth trackers.
  • Block thieves who steal your phone from gaining access to the rest of your digital life.
The device in your pocket or on your wrist can keep you safe in ways you may not have realized, and this book helps you make the most of those capabilities. I hope you’ll find it useful! You can:

Warm regards,

over the world in so many important directions these days that useful,
day to day stuff like this gets lost in the storm.
