Photos Duplicates

Hello Mac group!

I have my photos library, that uses the Photos app on my iMac, on an external drive. I occasionally connect my iPhone 14 Pro to my iMac to upload photos to the app. Each time I do this I've noticed that there are more and more duplicate photos, even though I select "import all new items" from the menu. Gah, there must be thousands of duplicate now that stretch back years, even though I've only had this new phone for a few months.

I'll search for a resolution to this issue, but does anyone here have an idea as to why this is happening? And... How do I get rid of them?

Randy, it appears that you are logged into iCloud, sync for your photos.
For your phone and computer
If you import the photos again they will be duplicates.

Thanks Laron! Dang, it's from my iCloud sync? Id forgotten that I'd selected that at some point.
