Today I got a call from Spain saying I had ordered something from
Amazon but if you haven't then click here or call there and give us
all your info.

So I carefully avoided accidentally touching the screen somewhere that
I didn't mean to (which is one of the things I don't like about the
touch screen interface) and when I got home I checked on my computer
to see if there was a new charge on my credit card.

Then I tried logging in to Amazon to see whether something had been
ordered, but instead of getting a text with a 6 digit code I got a
text message on my phone from 25392 that looked like this:
----
https://www.amazon.com/a/c/r/long_string_of_characters.

Amazon: Sign-in from WA, US. Tap link to respond.
----
So my question is: Has Amazon started doing their two factor
authentication like this? I've recently started getting bogus calls
and texts to the point where I'm unsure anymore what's real.

Besides Spain I've been getting texts from +63 which is the country
code for the Philippines. Maybe I'm just getting further behind even
faster than I'm getting older.

Lee, those bogus calls, emails or text messages claiming you ordered something on Amazon and now owe money are simply fraudulent messages. Amazon NEVER communicates that way. As you know, DO NOT RESPOND IN ANY WAY. It is best to completely ignore them. Just trash the messages and then empty your “trash”.

Same appies to the BOGUS emails or text messages supposedly from the USPS claiming you must send money to release a package being sent to you.

When you order on Amazon, you get an immediate confirmation email that clearly states the order number, what you ordered, and the price as it was charged on your credit card. Period.

My Amazon account is setup for Two Step Verification. I set that up. I get the following page immediately after submitting my username and password. You can see the last 3 digits of my cell phone number… so I know it is legitimate. I then have to open my Messages app, copy the 6-digit OTP (One Time Passcode) sent by Amazon and paste it on the log in page to complete opening my account. That’s it.

Hi Lee,

I would try changing my password, which then I assume would send a confirmation link to your email address. Hopefully, you don't receive the same weird message. That doesn't look right, to me.

And yes, I never respond to any of that suspicious stuff. I also have received the phishing texts from the Philippines and have deleted and blocked the numbers.

You're probably fine.
