Here's a first post in this new group, in which I will detail the thinking behind the new website:

The purpose of this redesign is to make the Transhumanist FAQ more accessible to a larger group of people. This is achieved by:
  • a) updating the design to be more legible, user-friendly, and good looking,
  • b) optimizing the page to work equally well on all kinds of devices, as well as when printed and such,
  • c) moving it to its own domain (whatistranshumanism.org) with its own style, that is good for sharing to a wide audience, and
  • d) setting up a useful system for "official" translations of the FAQ, as well as maintenance of these, and the website in general.
Here are some more detailed info on what has changed:
  • New website (and domain name) that focuses on answering the question "What is Transhumanism?" through an easy to read, good looking interface. Perfect starting place for newcomers, in a much more accessible and inviting way than the current Transhumanist FAQ page.
  • Much easier maintenance through hosting on GitHub. Anyone with an account can suggest a change directly, which can then be approved by the project maintainers, after which it is automatically incorporated in the site with a few clicks. This makes for a more active, living document, hopefully making it easier to keep up to date as well.
  • A system for creating and maintaining translations with ease. Whenever a significant change is made to the English version, there will be a notice on the translation page for all languages that need to be updated, and a link than shows a color-coded diff of what has changed in the original since the translation was last updated.
  • The question "What is transhumanism?" has been moved up to be the entire page's introductory text.
  • Optimized for various devices such as phones and tablets.
  • Custom print style for better margins (allowing for punching holes or stapling), hiding of unnecessary elements, etc. when printing the page.
  • Easier to read due to larger text, higher contrast, better line length and height, and a serif font.
  • Much more emphasized headers and sub-headers, both in size, color, and margins. All headers for questions are also links themselves, as a fast way to get a link to the question while reading it.
  • More distinct links, due to color and underline.
  • Better hyperlinking; all internal references to other parts of the page can now be clicked to jump there. All references with hyperlinks are now linked themselves, instead of a textual link after the reference. Note that the full link will still show in brackets after all external links, due to the custom print style.
  • All lists (e.g. references) are now actual bullet- or numbered lists.
  • Assorted typos and other small glitches corrected.
The following broken links have been fixed:
Further notes on links:
  • The link to Extropy Institute (http://www.extropy.org/) has been removed as it does not exist anymore. The reference itself is kept for posterity.
  • The link to World Transhumanist Association (http://www.transhumanism.org/) is left as is, even though it now redirects to the Humanity+ website.
  • The link to The Extropian Principles 3.0: A Transhumanist Declaration (http://www.maxmore.com/extprn3.htm) is broken on Max More's website. I've emailed him about this.
  • The link to What is the Singularity by Eliezer Yudkowsky has been unlinked (i.e. the text item remains) as it does not seem to be available online anymore.
All references has been audited to follow Chicago citation style (http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html), and consistently so. (This means italicized titles, full first names, etc.) Also, all references' titles have been checked and updated to reflect its original title.

Further notes on references:
  • The reference to "Foresight Guidelines on Molecular Nanotechnology, version 3.7" should probably by updated to point at the latest version.
