Hi there friends of Whatipu,

I had the privilege of visiting your beautiful beach yesterday and noticed a couple of ARC Park Rangers heading back with a huge haul of rubbish.

I just want to say well done for your efforts- it is great to see people actively taking the protection of our coastline into their hands.

I work for a charity that coordinates large-scale coastal clean-up events.  I was wondering if anyone was planning on auditing the rubbish that was removed?  We are in the process of constructing an interactive map which will display results from coastal clean-up events.  We will happily promote your efforts from yesterday through this tool, our website, database and social media networks.

If anyone out there has some of the results (no. of people, time cleaning up, rubbish removed in weight and volume (litres), we will display your results.

We are also in the process of planning a huge clean-up in December, of Rangitoto Island.  We will have 1900 people cleaning up the coast.  This will be a platform which we will use to offer participants the opportunity to get involved in ongoing projects and groups which are protecting our coastlines.  If you are interested, we will promote your group and see if we can help to engage more volunteers to help your efforts.

Of course, you are all invited to participate in the event also!

Kind regards,

Sam Judd
