Hello everyone!

Reaching out to share that the Bellingham Food Bank's Gleaning Project is back and ready to work with farms, orchards, backyard trees etc. again this season. We are actively looking for gleaning opportunities with local farms and home orchards! If you or someone you know may be interested in Bellingham Food Bank gleaners harvesting your extra produce please connect with us!

For those unfamiliar with our program, we work with local farmers and community members to harvest or collect excess/seconds/donated produce that then goes directly to our local Whatcom County food banks and meal programs. BFB alone serves 25% of Whatcom County and sees over 5,000 families come through our doors for our free grocery program, 3 times a week. Being able to provide fresh local produce (purchased and gleaned) for so many members of our community is so impactful!

For a glean, we provide all necessary harvest materials, transport, labor (trained staff and volunteers- all covered with our liability insurance) etc. We also record all donations throughout the season so we can send you a letter/receipt with your donation weight at the end of October. We would love to come out to your fields or orchards to harvest leftover produce/ crops going to be tilled in etc.

Please feel free to reach out at any time with questions or if you have interest in gleaning, email or phone are both great.  We are ready to glean now through the end of October! You can also check out our webpage, which has more resources for interested donors and volunteers. Thank you for all you do!

Best,

Sion Calabretta
