HOT SUMMER CHESS GRAND PRIX II
THIS SATURDAY JULY 9
FERNDALE LIBRARY

Website:  http://northwestchess.info/grandprix22.html
Pre-register: https://forms.gle/6BSwVWDUMqXarPs19

The Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix is a series of six Saturday morning tournaments.  You can play in just one, some, or all six.  Players are placed in "quads", sections of four players of similar ability, in a round-robin no-elimination format, so each student plays three games.

Players are expected to know how to play chess already.  Pre-registration is required, and players must check in before 9:10am or they'll be removed from the tournament.  (So don't be late!)  Beginners usually finish around 11am, advanced players about 12:15pm or so.

PRIZES:  Quad winners with perfect scores (three wins) earn the Quad Pen. Players who score 2.0 or higher in a Quad are awarded a chess book, all others will receive a chess magazine. The top five players who earn the most wins over the course of the Grand Prix earn trophies and chess books.

ENDGAME CONTEST:  Book prize awards for the top five, magazine prizes for all others who can checkmate from the starting position.  For details see the Grand Prix web page above.

IT'S RAINING BOOKS AND MAGAZINES
FOR ALL PLAYERS

Wow, a generous benefactor has donated a vast number of excellent chess books and magazines to be awarded as prizes for upcoming Whatcom Youth Chess events this year. So, for example, at the remaining Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix, this means every participant will earn either a chess book (if scoring 2.0 or higher) or a chess magazine.  And, in the Endgame Contest, the top five earn books, all others who make it onto the leaderboard will receive magazines.

LET'S GO TO CHESS CAMP

https://chess4life.com/services/chess-camps/

Well, that nasty virus shut down chess camps for the last two summers.  This summer, most of them are still online, although in the Seattle area there are a few in-person chess camps.

So, if your children need an engaging & stimulating activity this summer that will keep them learning day after day, you might check out the Chess4Life Online Chess Camps. Founder & CEO NM Elliott Neff was originally a Lynden kid ages ago, became a state high school champion, then a National Master, created Chess4Life, and now delights in providing quality chess instruction to youth nationwide with a variety of curriculums geared to a range of ages and abilities.
