1.
STANWOOD K-8 TOURNEY MARCH 28:
CANCELLED

It was scheduled for March 28, but due to COVID-19 concerns, all Stanwood district facilities are curtailing building use by outside groups.  They're also cancelling most extra-curricular activites.  Next year!

2.
JOIN THE KRAKEN
LOCAL SCHOLASTIC ONLINE CHESS CLUB

Well, if tournaments are being cancelled, let's have them online!  The Kraken is a freshly established free online scholastic chess club for students K-12 in Whatcom, Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties, and Stanwood.  Parents are welcome to join also, not to play but to encourage, watch and learn with their kids.

Two recurring tournaments are being offered: the Kraken Splash on Wednesday evenings (G/5 d5), and the Kraken Battle on Saturday mornings (G/10 d5).

The above events use Arena pairings, which means you can enter the tournaments late or leave early.  And pairings are quick, you're paired right away with whomever is available.  Prizes are virtual medals.

A "daily move" tournament, the Kraken Deep Dive, will be offered once every two months also.  Enter before March 31 to play in the first Deep Dive.

For more info or to join, visit https://www.chess.com/club/the-kraken.  Questions, email club director Randy...@ferndalesd.org.
