FUNHOUSE CHESS TOURNEY

Who: Chessplayers 2nd - 12th grades beginners welcome.
Schedule: Pre-register. Then check in between 9:10am and 9:20am on tourney day. Concludes around 12:45pm.
Format: Six round McMahon Swiss no-elimination pairings. Clocks will be used, with 7 minutes per side, and an additional 5 second delay. Or ten minutes each side with an analog clock.
Cost: Free!
Prizes: Odd ball goofy awards, TBD.
Each round will feature a different version of chess. No need to learn'm in advance, we'll teach you on the spot. Shuffle Chess, Duck Chess, Giveaway Chess, Two Move Chess, Knightmare Chess, Dice Chess!

CHESS IN THE PARK

Our "Sunday Chess in the Park" series continues this Sunday July 26, 2026, from 2pm to 5pm.  We will be playing at the Fairhaven Village Green in Fairhaven (1207 10th St, Bellingham). The Sunday Chess in the Park chess gatherings were popular in the past and will be held throughout the summer months. Future Chess In The Park dates:

• July 26
• August 9
• August 23
• September 6

For our summer outdoor venues, in addition to chess pieces/board, bring a small pop-up table and two chairs, if you can.  If you don't have table/chairs, you're still welcome to come out and play.  The chess tables are set up in the periphery of the green area where there is cover in case of rain. There are cafes and coffee shops nearby.  The on-street parking is free on Sundays.  Since Fairhaven tends to be busier on Sunday afternoons, I would suggest to drop off the table/chairs at the venue and then find a parking spot.  See you there!

DOG DAYS GRAND PRIX BEGINS AUGUST 3

Mark your calendars - four tournaments make up the Dog Days Grand Prix, all Mondays in August.  Individual prizes at each event, with five trophies and five medals for those whom rack up the most points over the courst of the Grand Prix.  Play in one, two, three or all four. All events feature check-in from 9:10am to 9:20am in the morning, and go until noon or so, depending on player speed.  Free, but players must register for each tourney in advance.

WHITE ELEPHANT TOURNEY RESULTS

What a hoot! Everybody brought a garage sale item, from board games to cat toys to ... a working drone?! Indeed! When the dust had settled after six rounds, three glad yaters had tied for first -- Nicholas, Thomas and Jethro. Pre-K student Isabella scored 2.5 wins too, and fun was had by all. The higher finishers got first pick among the smorgasbord of white elephant items.
