BURLINGTON LIBRARY'S ALMOST SUMMER CHESS TOURNAMENT SERIES
FIRST ONE THIS SATURDAY MAY 30
FREE, 3RD-12TH GRADES,  32 PLAYERS MAXIMUM

Burlington Library event website here.

The Burlington Public Library is hosting a series of three Saturday afternoon Scholastic Chess Tournaments on May 30, June 6 and June 20.  The tournament room will be the Burlington Hill side of its large Conference Room, which is the side closest to the main entrance.  Each of these tournaments will have three rounds and will be NWSRS rated.  Swiss Pairings will be used, which means everyone playing will play all three rounds. USCF official rules will be used.  Tournament Director is Randy Walther.

The event will be open to scholastic chess players from 3rd grade to 12th grade.  This event is only for players that already know how to play chess and are able to record their games' moves using chess notation.

All players must register to play in advance via email to randyw...@msn.com before the day of the tournament.  I will confirm all entries via email.  Maximum of 32 players.  Please email me before midnight Friday if you want to play.

The entry fee is free.  You will be expected to help set up and clean up afterwards.

Check-in will be from 12:10 to 12:25pm.  Do not be late!  The 1st round will start at 12:30 pm or as soon as possible after check-in is closed.  Round 2 scheduled to start at 1:40pm and Round 3 should start at 2:50pm.  Time Control: 30 Minutes/Game with a 5 second increment.  Recording the moves of your games is required until one player's time is under five minutes.

Tournament Chess sets, boards and score sheets will be provided by the TD.  Bring your digital delay/increment chess clocks if you own one.  Everyone must bring their own writing instrument.

Sincerely,
Randy Walther

CHESS IN THE PARK BEGINS
FOR ALL AGES
THIS SUNDAY, FAIRHAVEN VILLAGE GREEN

From the Bellingham Chess Club:

Our "Sunday Chess in the Park" series is continuing Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 2pm to 5pm.  We will be playing at the Fairhaven Village Green in Fairhaven (1207 10th St, Bellingham). The Sunday Chess in the Park chess gatherings were popular in the past and will be held throughout the summer months.  See our website for future Chess in the Park dates also.

For our summer outdoor venues, in addition to chess pieces/board, bring a small pop-up table and two chairs, if you can.  If you don't have table/chairs, you're still welcome to come out and play.  The chess tables are set up in the periphery of the green area where there is cover in case of rain. There are cafes and coffee shops nearby.  The on-street parking is free on Sundays.  Since Fairhaven tends to be busier on Sunday afternoons, I would suggest to drop off the table/chairs at the venue and then find a parking spot.  See you there!
