FAIRHAVEN VILLAGE GREEN CHESS
SUNDAY JULY 24, FOR ALL AGES, 2:00pm+
BELLINGHAM CHESS CLUB

From this week's Bellingham Chess Club newsletter:

Hello Chess Fans,

We started our "Sunday Chess in Bellingham" events at an outdoor venue at the Fairhaven Village Green, 1207 10th Street, Fairhaven (Bellingham).  Bring your chess sets and a pop-up table with two chairs, if possible.  If you cannot bring a table/chairs, come anyway as usually enough persons bring a table/chairs to accommodate everyone.  There is on-street parking around the square and there are no parking fees on Sundays.  Cafes, eateries and breweries are located nearby.

We had a good turn-out on July 10th, the last gathering, at Fairhaven Village Green with 10-12 players.  Looking forward to see you this coming Sunday for several hours of competitive chess play in the park.

We will be holding most of our Sunday chess events at this venue during the summer months.  Fairhaven Village Green is at 1207 10th St, Bellingham.

HOT SUMMER CHESS GRAND PRIX III
SATURDAY AUGUST 6
FERNDALE LIBRARY

Website:  http://northwestchess.info/grandprix22.html
Pre-register:  https://forms.gle/95HoPU8VVVkUtRLk9

The Hot Summer Chess Grand Prix is a series of six Saturday morning tournaments.  You can play in just one, some, or all six.  Players are placed in "quads", sections of four players of similar ability, in a round-robin no-elimination format, so each student plays three games.

Players are expected to know how to play chess already.  Pre-registration is required, and players must check in before 9:10am or they'll be removed from the tournament.  (So don't be late!)  Beginners usually finish around 11am, advanced players about 12:15pm or so.

PRIZES:  Quad winners with perfect scores (three wins) earn the Quad Pen. Players who score 2.0 or higher in a Quad are awarded a chess book, all others will receive a chess magazine, so everybody gets something. The top five players who earn the most wins over the course of all Grand Prix tournaments earn trophies and chess books.

ENDGAME CONTEST:  Book prize awards for the top five, magazine prizes for all others who can checkmate from the starting position.  For details see the Grand Prix web page above.
