WHITE ELEPHANT TOURNEY
THIS MONDAY, SIGN UP BY SUNDAY
SIX ROUNDS OF EXHILARATIONWebsite, pre-register: http://northwestchess.info/elephant2026.htmlIt's a quick chess tournament! Six rounds of McMahon Swiss format, which means no elimination, every player gets six rounds, and you'll play others about your own strength. Everybody will use clocks, set at seven minutes per side, with a five second delay, or, if you have an analog clock, ten minutes per side. So all rounds conclude within a half hour. Unrated.
"White Elephant" means the price of admission is ... a white elephant gift! So every player will get a white elephant prize! First place in each division gets first pick, second placers gets second pick, etc. McMahon pairings means there will be at least two divisions. Open to chess players K-12, beginners welcome.
Bring your analog or digital chess clock! Whoever has the Black pieces gets to use their clock. If neither player brings a clock, then you'll borrow one from the clock tub.
What's a white elephant gift? Any clean knick knack sitting in your attic, garage, kitchen or room that you no longer want, but just maybe, someone else might get a kick out of. What would you find in a garage sale free box? Bring it! Don't have to wrap it.
Must pre-register!2.
HOT SUMMER CHESS GRAND PRIX CONCLUDES
FINN WEARS THE CROWNFull final standings of all 65 players here It took nine hard-fought rounds of chess over the course of three tournaments to determine the champions, but the hot summer dust settled over the Ferndale desert, and who emerged from the sandy cloud on top? Mr. Finn, that's who! And scores of others were tested and strengthened in the crucible of sizzling chessboards. The Trophy and chess clocks were awarded. Congrats to the top three, the top twelve, and all who gave their observation, calculation and visualization abilities a great workout.
