Hi friends-
So,
yesterday was one of our hardest training walks so far- it was only 10
miles, but crazy hot. I think it was the first walk this year where I
was actually hot when it was done (the advantage of walking in the
afternoon- when you are done walking, it is cooler than when you
started!) Being hot makes you more tired, being tired makes the walking
harder on your body. I was much, much more sore than after last week's
18 mile walk. I was sitting on the couch feeling tired, worn and
worried yesterday when I happened to start watching Oprah. I wish every
one of you could have seen Christina Applegate speak about her decision
to have a double mastectomy, it
was heat breaking and inspiring all at the same time. Also on
the show was Nancy Brinker, who founded Susan G Komen for the Cure in
order to honor a promise to her sister who died of breast cancer.
Probably not an accident that I needed to be reminded about why I was
doing all the crazy walking, fund raising... losing sleep, time with my
friends... getting blisters, oddly tan.... In the end, I am lucky
beyond reason to be able to do this. Today is the first day of
October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That means I get to start
wearing my pretty pink ribbon rhinestone pin at work everyday... and
think about what it really means to be lucky, strong, healthy (and
oddly tan).
Today would be a great day to forwad this email to your freinds, family
and co-workers. Every bid in our action has the potential to save the
life of someone you know.
