My paternal grandfather (an Englishman) died at Vimy Ridge, and is
commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
(My dad was 8).
Hey Mudge, I believe Canada has a wee bit of Vimy Ridge in perpetuity....
could you move there and live according to Canadian law? <g>
Another case of us rarely hearing of anything done by Canadians....

Don't think so - the land around the monument was granted to Canader in
the 1930's but I don't think they would even let you stick up a tent to
live there.
My late Father was a member of the RNWMP before WWI and went back home
to join the British Army when war broke out - he got shot up near Vimy
and returned to Canada in the 1920's after his arm was rebuilt and he
was released from the horsepiddle in London.

Sadly, we don't hear much even in Canader - they don't teach "History"
any more as it isn't "Politically Correct" dontcha know !!!
