Hello everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that the counsel of the GSU will be voting on Nov. 21st about whether or not to endorse the call for divestment of companies supporting war and occupation. This divestment campaign was initiated by Students Against Israeli Apartheid at the UofT.  In order to prepare for this vote, the Social Justice Committee of the GSU is hosting an educational forum on Tuesday, Nov. 15th.  Please contact your GSU course representative to let them know how you'd like them to vote and attend the educational if you'd like to learn more or would like to support this initiative. More details are below.

The Graduate Students' Union Social Justice Committee is hosting a
moderated open discussion forum to hear a diversity of perspectives
about Students' Against Israeli Apartheid's call for UofT to divest
from companies that support war and occupation in the Palestinian
Territories and other violations of international law.

When - Nov 15th 7-9pm.
Where - OISE 2-214.

Learn more about the issue and talk to your course union
representative who will be voting Nov 21st on whether the
GSU should support this call for divestment.

The GSU council motion on divestment:
Be it resolved that the Graduate Students’ Union call on the
University of Toronto to divest from and refuse to reinvest in BAE
Systems, Northrop Grumman, Hewlett Packard and Lockheed Martin.

Be it further resolved that the Graduate Students’ Union call on the
University of Toronto to refrain from investing in all companies
involved in violations of international law.

Be it further resolved that the Graduate Students’ Union call on the
University of Toronto to work with students, faculty and staff to
undergo a democratic and transparent process to ensure accountability
of its investments to principles of social and environmental justice.
