All, especially those who haven't attended one of these calls in a very long time,
This group needs your input. The group has just started the process or preparing a revised version of SAML2int, the SAML 2.0 Interoperability Deployment profile, for Kantara review. The work was done by a working group of the InCommon Federation and was done almost entirely by individuals in the research and education sector. To be a success, we must have input from other sectors.
The revised SAML2int contains significant updates to modernize and firm up deployment requirements of a SAML identity provider or service provider. While there was some common knowledge of best practices among the R&E community, these were not clearly documented as requirements. In many cases, there was even confusion or disagreement about requirements within the R&E community. All of this lead to issues with interoperability and challenges in federating with other parties, most often vendors who don't follow best practices.
We strongly encourage you to review the revised SAML2int which can be found at
https://kantarainitiative.github.io/SAMLprofiles/saml2int.html
We also request your attendance and participation in working group meetings to help us identify and deal with any concerns you might have. The Kantara process requires that we identify any dissenting opinions and document them before a specification or profile goes to vote. To make thi work, we need your help and attendance.
Thank you,
Keith
