7 DAY STRIKE OF WORKERS IN DOCKYARDS

The Greek shipowners, having the support of the European Union, the government and the parties of capital, utilizing the “crisis” that they themselves have created through the long-term accumulation of wealth, aim at:
1. Eliminating the labour, wage and social security rights that the workers in dockyards have achieved through hard struggles.
2. Replacing the crews of ships with workers who will be uninsured, underpaid and will not have any rights.
3. Continuing to be richer exploiting not only the workers in dockyards but also the residents of islands and all those who need to use the ships which are in the hands of the ship owners.
The workers in dockyards held a 7-day strike and struggled together with the trade unions which are rallied in PAME and with thousands of workers, young men and women who actively expressed their solidarity. The workers in dockyards demanded full-time and stable job, social security rights and collective agreements that will meet modern needs; they claimed that the coastal navigation should serve popular needs. The strike became a very tough struggle. The shipowners and the government mobilized all their mechanisms, using blackmails, threats, the propaganda of the mass media, brutal violence and threats through weapons by the special forces of the Port Police Corps. In this strike the subversive role of the subjugated trade union leaderships was once again revealed! The need for the workers in dockyards to become free from the governmental employers’ and reformists’ trade unionism was also revealed. The government used all the reactionary laws to implement its antipopular policies, to declare the strike illegal and finally implemented the policy of recruitment of workers in dockyards, as it had also done in 2002 and 2006.
The trade unions of workers in dockyards that are members of PAME, reorganize their forces to counterattack the attack of the shipowners and the antipopular policy of the government and the European Union.

Los griegos armadores con el apoyo de la Unión Europea, del gobierno y de los partidos de capital aprovechando la ¨crisis¨ que ellos mismos crearon con la larga acumulación de la riqueza, tienen objetivos:
1. Eliminar los derechos laborales salariales y de seguridad social que han conquistado los marineros despues de luchas muy duras.
2. Sustituir a las tripulaciones de los barcos con marineros mal pagados, sin seguro y derechos.
3. Siguen enriquesiendose explotando no solo los marineros sino tambien los habitantes de las islas asi que aquellos que están obligados a utilizar los barcos. Los que están en manos de los armadores.
Los marineros han dado una lucha de huelga de 7 días junto con los sindicatos agrupados en PAME, junto con miles de trabajadores, de jovenes que expresaron su plena solidaridad .Los marineros exigieron trabajo fijo,estable, seguridad social y convenios laborales que satisfagan las necesidades actuales y que la Navegación Costera debe servír a las necesidades populares. La huelga se convirtió en una dura confrontación. Los armadores y el gobierno remobilizaron todos los mecanismos utilizando chantajes, amenazas, la propaganda en los medios de comunicación, violencia brutal, amenaza de armas por la policia especial del puerto. Una vez más, en esta huelga se reveló el papel subversive de la direcciones sindicales conformistas y también se mostró la necesidad que los marineros sean liberados del sindicalismo gubernamental, empresario y reformista. El gobierno para aplicar su política antipopular utiliza todas las leyes reaccionarias para sacar la huelga ilegal y por último ha aplicado la política de contratación de los marineros como han hecho los años 2002 y 2006.
Los Sindicatos de los Marineros que están afiliados a PAME, reorganizan sus fuerzas para evitar el ataque armador y la política antipopular del gobierno y de la Unión Europea.
