Hi,

Teaching assignment for me again.

This is from the #wfs-india IRC meet log on 3rd June

<satabdi> but there are so few people
<kaustavdm> is there anyone else here?

Now everybody in most of my circles know that I am trans-woman and am
transitioning.

Gendered references if any to trans persons should be in accordance
with their target gender or gender identity.
Anything else would be insensitive and cruel.

Since "we" speak of gender equality and related things, I see a
grotesque contradiction here and too many literate people will say the
same.

Please learn.

Mani, sorry I was pretty busy last night and overlooked that part in a
hurry, otherwise I would have corrected Satabdi back there.

Mani,

I didn't know and I assumed a wrong identity for you. I am sorry and it won't happen again.

Whatever you do may seem insignificant to you, but it is most important that you do it.

Hey Mani,

Even I also didn't know that you are a trans-woman. I guess many people don't. But I think such misunderstandings are common enough -- specially over email/chat. For example my name got shortened as 'Deb' to an American guy and he figured I must be a girl since he could only map it to the name 'Deborah' :-) I can give lots of examples where gender identity is wrongly assumed in common speech when two people converse electronically for the first time
Let's not get offended for such small misunderstandings

Regards,
Debamitro
