The Downtown Bellingham Partnership and the City of Bellingham, along with the Lettered Streets Neighborhood Association, are hosting a National Night Out event in Maritime Heritage Park on August 5 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
National Night Out is a nationwide program to raise awareness about crime prevention activities in an effort to take back neighborhoods. It’s held on the first Tuesday of August each year and is a time for communities to come together, build relationships and stand united against crime. The goal of this event in Maritime Heritage Park is to engage neighbors and to encourage more use of the park.
“Maritime Heritage Park isn’t just downtown’s park — it’s everyone’s park,” said Downtown Bellingham Partnership Executive Director Patrick Hurley. “We’re excited to put on this event, and hope this is the beginning of many events in Maritime Heritage Park.”
Attendees can either bring their own picnic or enjoy food from local food vendors that will be present. Games and family-friendly activities will be available to enjoy during the night, along with live music. Mayor Kelli Linville will be in attendance along with other City personnel to discuss ideas attendees have about the future enhancements of Maritime Heritage Park.
“Maritime Heritage Park is a great location for residents in our community to gather for a National Night Out event,” Mayor Linville said. “The purpose of National Night Out is to meet neighbors and build relationships, and this is especially important for this park, which is so closely connected to downtown, Old Town and the Lettered Streets."
