Does this mean, that intentional picks are possible against a zone
defense?
For example: One team plays a zone with one deep defender. The offense
could use two guys to outplay that deep easily. One guy stays always
right behind the deep player. And another player sets up far away in
the endzone.
If the huck goes up the defender would lose important time to avoid
contact with that picking player right behind him, but he could not
call a pick. Is this right?
Generally the only time you might legitimately be able to call a pick
in a zone is if you are actively marking the thrower and are prevented
from marking them by another player
