I tend to get straddled alot, however calling it usually leads the people not knowing and/or understanding the call, which then leads to me calling straddle again or fast count, which then leads to them either still not understanding or not going back to zero. I have also frequently been called "nitpicking" as it seems many people seem to consider straddeling as an insignificant infraction. My main concern with a straddle is that if I want to quickly pivot to throw a break I will invariably bump into the marker, which is something I obviously want to prevent (even though it would obviously be a marker foul leading me to get a "free throw").
As such I wonder if this is a common problem? From my discussions other people have similar issues.
Maybe it would be easier to integrate the rule into the distance rule?
Right now I have become hesitant to even call a straddle because it leads to more bad blood on the field than if I just bump into the marker when pivoting.
Maybe I just have to stay patient, educate people about the rules and hope that in a few years people know what a straddle is and why the rule exists.
