Hi,

I'd like to run a scenario by people and see what people's take on it
is.

During play, something happens (a jump, dive, catch ...) were no
contact is involved and a player makes a noise of discomfort (not
pain) and is slow to get up or is bent over.

Case 1 - "Injury" is not called but everybody (on both teams) stops
and waits for this player. After a minute or so, the player says
something like "I'm ok, thanks. Let's play on." Opposition say "you
have to sub after an injury", "But I didn't call injury so I can play
on". Is this right, can this player stay on the pitch?

Case 2 - The player affected is on defence. After a pause (5 - 10
seconds) when no call is made the offence plays on. Defence then say
"Stop, injury", "You didn't call anything when it happened", "It was
obvious". Again, is this right? Should one team 'assume' an injury
is being called?

These are basically two contrasting cases so I'd be interested to know
which one is correct. Thanks for your time and I look forward to
reading the responses.

Dominick.

I finally have an answer (it didn't actually take this long to decide
on an answer though)

Play doesn't stop unless an "Injury" call is actually made.
Only the person injured should call Injury, unless they are unable
too.
If you think someone might want to call an Injury but hasn't, ask
them, and if they do, you should echo that call.

Case 1:
Before everyone is standing around waiting, you should ask the player
if they are calling an Injury stoppage.
If they aren't, just play on. If they didn't call injury, they can
stay on the field.

Case 2:
It's right to play on until they actually make the call, but again, it
might be best to prompt them first.

Hi Rueben,

Thanks for getting back to me about this. Your explanation makes a
lot sense. I'll definitely try and put it into practice the next time
a situation like this comes up.

With regards,

Dominick.
