Hi all. At a tournament a couple of weeks ago, our team faced a new rule-question regarding who actually has the final word in an out of bounds call. Although I thought it was the person in possession of the disc that had the final call of whether the disc was o/b or down, I could not find this explicitly written in the rules. The only section of the rules addressing this is:
13.2. If it is unclear whether a turnover occurred, the player(s) with the best perspective
quickly makes the call. If either team disagrees they may call "contest" and:
13.2.1. the disc is returned to the thrower; and
13.2.2. any stall count restarts at maximum nine (9).
So, one player catches the disc and calls himself “IN” (in this case in the endzone) and his defender calls “OUT”. The people on the sideline say “IN” and the defender insists that the player was “OUT” and contests. How should play proceed? (in our case, it went back to thrower- letting wonder-ultimate magic of taking back time occur).
Looking forward to answers, sofia
No one person has "the final word".
Players should take into account the perspective of people who had a
good perspective, but if there is no agreement, the call is contested
and the disc goes back to the thrower.
