EDF file annotation

Hello

I have an EDF file produced by NicoletOne (originally collected with Nihon Kohden)
This is NOT EDF+ format.

There are annotations in there, made via NicoletOne.

I would like to extract the names and times of those annotations.

Using EDFBrowser, I am able to verify that yes, they exist. I could export them from there.
I do not know what I can do within WFDB or matlab tools to extract those annotations.
EDFBrowser for some reason will not automatically give me a standard montage from this file.
EEGlab can extract the times but not the labels of the annotations for some reason.

So questions:
1. Can I convert this EDF to EDF+ format via WFDB or other free tools available?
2. Is there a way using command line WFDB or matlab based WFDB tools (or any matlab tool!) to extract those annotations from the EDF (non plus) file?

I am also trying to read the annotations. So how did you load the annotations into EEGLab? I couldn't even load the time.
