Good Afternoon Partners,
A prolonged stretch of very hot and humid conditions will result in dangerous heat across the region during the second half of this week and right into the July 4th holiday weekend. An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for most of our area, with areas currently not included likely having a heat related watch, advisory or warning as we get a little closer.
Here are the key messages for the upcoming dangerous heat:
- High temperatures Wednesday through Saturday around 100 degrees for most areas (hottest days look to be Thursday and Friday), then some cooling mainly on Sunday. Overnight low temperatures only dropping into the mid 70s to low 80s will offer little to no relief.
- Heat index values are forecast to be between 105-110 degrees Wednesday through Saturday, with the heat starting to ease some mainly on Sunday.
- Some thunderstorms will be possible mostly during the afternoon and evening of Friday, Saturday and Sunday. If they occur, they will offer some local relief.
- The combination of very hot and humid conditions (potentially near record breaking) for consecutive days can result in heat related illnesses, especially for the elderly and the young.
