Subject: [EXTERNAL] Dangerous Stretch of Heat July 1-5, 2026 Briefing #2
Good Morning NWS Partners,
There have been no major changes to the forecast regarding the dangerous stretch of heat starting Wednesday and into the holiday weekend.
A prolonged stretch of very hot and humid conditions will result in dangerous heat across the region during the second half of this week and right into the July 4th holiday weekend. An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for most of our area, with areas currently not included likely having a heat related watch, advisory, or warning as we get a little closer.
Here are the key messages for the upcoming dangerous heat:
1. High temperatures Wednesday through Saturday around 95-105° for most areas (hottest days look to be Thursday and Friday), then some cooling mainly on Sunday. Overnight low temperatures only dropping into the mid 70s to low 80s will offer little to no relief.
2. Heat index values are forecast to be between 100-110° Wednesday through Saturday, with the heat starting to ease some by Sunday.
3. Some thunderstorms will be possible mostly during the afternoon and evening of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If they occur, they will offer some local relief.
4. The combination of very hot and humid conditions (near record breaking) for multiple consecutive days can result in heat related illnesses, especially for the elderly and the young.
Note: A graphic is included which lists some 100° stats at our climate stations for reference. There was a typo discovered for the Georgetown, DE all time record high temperature date.
The experimental NWS HeatRisk website designed to forecast heat related impacts. An extreme risk is likely Friday and Saturday.

If you have any questions, contact our office. The next briefing will be issued by 5 PM Monday, June 29, 20206.
Sincerely,
NWS Mount Holly
