Subject: [EXTERNAL] Flash Flooding and Severe Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday - Briefing
Good Morning Partners,
An area of low pressure is expected to pass through the region today, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding will be possible along with the potential for isolated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, but today the main threat is confined to the Delmarva.
Changes from previous briefing: Flood watches and severe thunderstorm watches are no longer currently in effect.
Here are the key messages:
1. An area of low pressure is expected to bring more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region today.
2. Unlike yesterday, today the strongest storms will be confined to the Delmarva and possibly far southern New Jersey.
3. Rainfall amounts could exceed 1 to 2 inches in an hour in spots, which could lead to flash flooding, particularly in urban areas.
4. The track of the low pressure system through our area today will lead to the potential for isolated severe thunderstorms midday into this afternoon with damaging winds the primary threat.
