FireFighter of the Year:
Jim Meige was named 2007 FireFighter of the year by the Worthington
VFW. Jim was nominated by his co-workers for his diligence in
mentoring new members of the Department. The award was given the
evening of May 17th, in a short ceremony at the VFW on Morning St.

Summer Heat:
This Spring has already seen warmer than usual temperatures. A
reminder that heat injuries are easily prevented. Failure to take
simple precautions can be result in life-threatening injuries. Don't
over do it and know your limitations. Children and the elderly often
have much lower tolerance levels to heat. For more details on
preventing heat injuries, please visit http://wfd101.com/newsbin/heatinj.html.

Hydrants Completed, Hose Testing:
Crews spent most of May checking all hydrants in Worthington,
Riverlea, Sharon Township and Perry Township. We appreciate
everyone's patience during this time, as we understand it creates a
murky water in many areas. During June crews will be testing all the
hose on apparatus and reserve hose in the station. This testing is
done annually to assure the hose can safely handle required
pressures. The testing is mostly done at our station, but
occasionally we may use some side streets for portions of the
testing. If you see crews out doing such testing this month, please
use caution.

Summer Station Wear:
Speaking of heat... During warm weather, and for all of June, July
and August, our members wear navy blue T-shirts as part of their
normal station wear. The shirts clearly identify them as members of
our Department. These T's are worn to reduce heat stress and enhance
cooling while working in the summer heat. While they vary from the
uniforms you may be accustomed to seeing our members wear, we have
been using these lighter shirts for several years with increased
comfort and safety for our crews.
