Last month we had a flurry of apparatus problems that took several
trucks out of service during the month. During February, our new
Engine Rescue was gone for about 10 days while repairs were made to
some leaking air valves in the rear suspension. While this was
supposed to be a 1 day repair, the first valve arrived damaged and the
second took a few additional days due to weather. The leaking valves
caused one side of the rear of the truck to lower to a point that the
rear duals were rubbing the inside fender liner. The truck could not
be used until repairs were completed.
Additionally, we are still experiencing intermittent problems with the
engine's (motor's) computer controller. CAT diesel has advised a
firmware upgrade has just been issued that should address this
problem. We hope to have the vehicle service in the first week of
this month to take care of this problem.
2) WCAT Training
The Worthington Citizen Action Team has begun training at our station
on Wednesdays during February. This training will continue for
several more week. This group is receiving instruction on Fire
Department Operations so that they can assist with various responses -
everything from community events where large crowds are present to
disasters should they occur.
3) Safety Seminar Completed
Our Fire Department Local 3498 hosted its 4th annual safety seminar
during February. This event features 2 days of lectures and training
on various safety topics designed for emergency responders. This
years topic was "Reading Smoke" and saw 260 attendees.
