Hi all,

Urgent access audits need to be done before 31 July to check if new polling stations being proposed for 2019 general elections are accessible to locomotor disabled. This is normally for political parties to agree on locations which have

a) been necessitated due to voterbases exceeding ECI limit
b) or fresh replacements for erstwhile buildings demolished or in disrepair.

It would be good if the disability sector can intervene at this point in the following ways henceforth to prevent otherwise unrealistic and wasteful access audits of polling stations that are incomplete.

This article states that electors, who need to travel for more than two kilometres to the polling station or require shifting of station for other reasons, can submit a petition to the respective revenue divisional officer, booth level officer or tahsildar. A few sample access audit reports would be evidence to force accessible polling stations.

Polling booths should be accessible for all, say politicos in the media - if so some pressure from our side on local political party representatives is in order.

Sadly the normal process requires putting up notices at the revenue divisional offices and taluk offices - but have found a few online. The rest can be accessed from physical locations.

If you can do the access audits online in English do fill in the following form as it will save time in collating for report : http://bit.ly/votability-pre
Otherwise, the format for the access audits is available as attachment in English and Tamil. Please feel free to provide regional language equivalents instead.

HURRY!
