Here are David's notes on the paper:

We will discuss the ecological problems at the Salton sea.  Specifically we will discuss eutrophication, nutrient cycling,  how to use biology to save biology, permaculture, the relationship between humans and the larger ecosystem, amongst other things.  Although old, this report provides an overview of the Salton sea issues and a projection of how these issues/dynamics may trend over the next 60 years.  I recommend focusing on 'printed pages' 1-40 (PDF pages 11-50).   This is somewhat long but its not as dense as a peer reviewed publication.   If you are pressed for time, I recommend focusing on the sections: Introduction, Background, Water Quality, and Biota.   Should be a great discussion for those interested in the multi-scale beauty of biology and how we all are connected.
