Marketing Plan

The Vans Skateboard Company allows skaters and fans of extreme sports
to enjoy comfortable apparel. What is unique about our apparel is that
it’s extremely cheap, but made with high quality fabric. It will last
through any of the toughest skate competitions or obstacles. Our
customers choose us, because we are an iconic skateboard company and
we have always come-thru with a very durable shoe. Our marketing goal
is to become a very household name, and being able to be one of the
top brands out there. We want to be able to be in every single mall
and have a vast audience.
Vans “Off the Wall” skate shoes has a number is a very stable company
with the potential to do greater. Strengths; the shoes is made very
durably for skating and pricing is very cheap. This will appear to a
wide audience of young skaters who don’t have enough money to buy
shoes. Very affordable shoes with a well branded name, probably one of
the biggest names in skateboarding. The Vans Skateboard brand is very
well known, another strength, which can boost in sales and
franchising. Many Vans Brand stores have been put in malls and
establishments all around. The stores bring in not only skateboarders
but, other people who enjoy the sport. Weaknesses; competition with
this brand is very intense, causing companies (such as NIKE) to create
a skate shoe of their own. This creates a competition in durability in
a shoe, and how comfortable the shoe is. Also, Vans needs to be able
to advertise as well as other companies do. This means to invest more
on visuals and pushing their brand further. This way, their brand is
pushed on to a more diverse audience of not only skaters but people
who love the style of the shoe. Opportunities; this company is big
enough to branch out and collaborate with other companies with no
problem. It’s very established and as well can convince major artists
or celebrities to want to help push the brand out more. Threats; all
other major skate companies competing to be the most durable and
comfortable shoe out.

The Chevy Volt

GM’s Chevrolet automotive company have started in 1911 bringing new innovative designs and features in North America. Chevy has fallen short in new technologies in the past decade. Other companies such as Ford having the first hybrid suv and Toyota bringing the high efficient prius. In 2007, Chevy introduce the Volt Concept that have longer electric range than the Toyota Prius. Chevy has started selling 2010 and since then it has fallen short in sales.

The Chevy Volt’s target audience is the college gard tech who cares about cutting new edge technologies than saving the environment. I believe Volt’s target audience is a right direction but because Volt is a new brand, it would take some time for people to really notice it. Today tech junkies have proven to bring popularity to products like for an example Apple’s products and blu-ray. The current message that Chevy is promoting is that the Volt is not going completely disrupt their daily lives but give them a new small change.

That new change that makes the Volt unique from the competitors is the long range plugIn electric motor. The electric motor powers the wheels while the gasoline engine only charges. The Toyota Pruis uses both the electric motor and combustion engine to power the wheels. The Nissan leaf uses only the electric motor and does not have a combustion engine to recharge. The style of the car makes it unique from the competitors.

The competitors have an odd and foreign design while the Volt have a futuristic design. Many people says the Volt has a spaceship feel because of the technologies the Volt has. The Volt has the convenience of both having the electric motor to power the wheels for economic purpose and also have the option for the combustion engine to charge it when you are unable to plug it in.

The option having the engine or a nearby electrical outlet to charge the batteries is one the strengths for the Volt. The Volt has a longer non-stop trip than the competitors. The downside for the Chevy Volt is the retail price. The Volt cost $39,145 while the Toyota Prius Plugin cost about $32,000. Some of the reasons for the high price is using the wrong parts on the Volt. Future improvements include cost reduction and more efficiency battery. The Volt is the only electric vehicle that Chevy as of right now. Other competitors such as Toyota, Nissan, and Ford have more hybrid, electric vehicles and more on their way.

The top competitors, Toyota, Nissan and Ford, have been planning on new hybrids and electric vehicles. The Toyota Prius is a very popular brand in America by providing affordable fuel efficient vehicles. The downside of the third generation Prius is short range electric motor. Toyota have introduced a bigger size model Prius and a very affordable model, Prius C for $18,950. Nissan has introduced the Leaf model that is all electric engine. The upside is zero emissions but the downside is no combustion engine to charge the batteries making it a very low range trip. Future opportunities is bigger batteries for longer range. Ford has been quiet for many years for only having a couple hybrid vehicles but they introduce a few more hybrid models and also the new focus electric.

The price of the Volt must change to to widen the target audience. Right now, only college graduates with good paying jobs can afford the Volt. Bringing the price down to the low 30s and with the tax credit bringing down to the high 20s will introduce a bigger target audience. The plug In vehicles is still fairly new and have limited plugIn charging station. I would bring more charging stations and give the people the opportunity to get in home station for free when purchasing a Volt. For the next updated model, I would introduce solar panels for extra efficiency.

For my promotion strategy, I would give the people the opportunity to try and see. There would be Volts in display at many popular malls. Also, at popular outdoor restaurants, there would Volt test drive. Sales representatives will give people the opportunity to test drive around the block and let them the features and options.

Opportunities for the Playstation 3 can be another color for the system can be a gray or a colorful color.  The internet could have protection software to keep from hacking and could have a built in camera.  The Playstation 3 could have another wireless controller so that 3 or more players could play.  The threats are the Kinect, and Xbox 360 because of the Kinect is popular with the users.  The users can move hands and other movements using cameras within the Kinect.  The characters act based on the player’s moves.

Competitors

Who are your top 3 competitors? What is their SWOT?

The Wii strengths are that the system has a built in memory and good with motions through gaming. Players can save their games on the memory. The weaknesses are that the system does not have a DVD player and no internet.  The Wii create a DVD player and have internet access.  The threats are the Kinect and Xbox 360.

The Xbox strengths are that the console has multiplayer wireless controls and nice 3D graphics.  The Weaknesses are that the system do not have as much memory as Playstation 3 and is not able to download movie.  Can provide more memory and be able to download movies.  Threats are Playstation 3 and Wii.

The Kinect strengths are that the user get interact through all motions of body without a device and has two cameras.  The Kinect weaknesses are that the device do not have a DVD player and does not identify the player.  Opportunities for the Kinect are that system could identify certain amount of players.  The system could also include a DVD, and the treats are Xbox 360, and Xbox live.
