You can tune your guitar with a microphone or by ear. Tuning the guitar automatically with a microphone is much easier, faster, and is our recommended option. However, tuning your instrument by ear will improve your musical ear in the long term, and can be a valuable skill to learn for the moments when you are not online.

You can use a tuner for all musical instruments. Below is a list of common instruments and their tuning. The notes are written from lowest to highest, except for the ukulele and banjo that don't have strings ordered by pitch.

Notice the list above only shows the most common tuning for each instrument. In rare cases, other tunings are used. The indicated guitar tuning applies to classical guitar, steel-string acoustic guitar, and electric guitar.

Welcome to use our tuner for free online. The app is fully chromatic and therefore the guitar tuner online does also support a variaty of stringed musical instruments. Click on any of the links below to read more about how to use the app for each specific instument. Also, it does work both for electric guitar and acoustic guitar.

If you are using a smartphone or tablet the guitar tuner app is best to use because the online tuner does not have smartphone support. If you are using a smartphone, download the our app Pro Guitar Tuner.

If you are using an acoustic guitar or any acoustic instrument the tuner will by default use the built-in microphone. However, if you want to tune an electric guitar or any plugged in instrument you have to adjust the input source.

The online version of the ProGuitar Tuner includes a massive library of different guitar types and alternative tunings. Note that the tuner works for both electric and acoustic guitar. Read the last section of this page to see all tuning options available. The list of alternate tunings for guitar would be too long if we list all here. Therefore, the available guitar types only are listed below. Follow the link to see the tunings available for the specific guitar.

At any time you can click the strings on the fretboard to listen to a reference tone. One common way of is to tune the guitar to itself. If you are a beginner it can be a good practise to use a combination of a reference tone and a guitar tuner. One thing to notice is that the online guitar tuner does not show the actual octave. For that you need to download the smartphone app, which at the moment is of much higher quality than the online app.

The tuner is fully chromatic but if you need a reference of a specific tuning when tuning by ear or if you want to tune any other instrument follow the steps in how to setup the guitar tuner for other instruments

Use this free online guitar tuner to tune your guitar. You may use this to tune any type of guitar that has 6 strings such as an acoustic, electric, or even classical guitar. This is initially set for the standard EADGBE guitar tuning. If you need a different tuning then adjust the notes to your liking, or use the presets on the right. Click here to check out our old guitar tuner. If you have a 12-String Guitar then click here.

If there is no sound or the tuner above does not work, try updating your web browser to the latest version. If it still does not work, please try our older Online Guitar Tuner that runs on Adobe Flash.

Instructions: To tune your guitar, first you need to know what tuning you want the guitar to be in. The standard tuning for 6 string guitars is EADGBE. If you want to tune it in standard form then you don't have to change any of the notes above, because it is initially set to EADGBE. If you want a different tuning then try some of the presets on the right side of the guitar tuner. If you don't find the tuning your looking for then you have to adjust the notes manually. Once you have set up the notes and have the correct tuning. Then click on the buttons one at a time and then tune your corresponding guitar string to the note. The thickest string on the guitar is the 6th string, and the thinnest is the 1st string. It tells you what string it is on each button. Also, be careful on how high you set the notes, because I have included notes on the tuner that would probably snap average guitar strings. Good luck.

Wish you had the old 12 string tuner working like it used to as now just states it wont work on my computer can't get it working but old original 12 string tuner you had did work perfectly any help advice appreciated great tuning on it back then.best wishes M

Tuning all strings one semitone lower than Drop D yields Drop C. Compared to the standard classical guitar tuning, the first five strings are lowered by one tone, while the sixth is lowered by two. The top graphic shows the notes that should be played on the fretboard to achieve this tuning. Strings with more thickness and durability work best for Drop C tuning.

You are welcome as an absolute beginner in this class, it's fine if you know nothing about music theory or guitar. You can also take it if you are already an experienced player but have never studied formally or would like to learn how to read music.

The book contains pieces and exercises from multiple genres as a vehicle for you to learn good technique and basic music theory through performing and practice. You should be able to practice 30-60 minutes a day, at least 5 (preferably 7) days a week. The consistency is the key to improving and getting an "A" in the class. You will also need 30 to 60 minutes to watch the corresponding videos in the modules every week. While it is a guitar class and I hope it is enjoyable for you, please remember this is a formal college class. You will need to work diligently, practice, do all the assignments and watch all the videos just as you would for any other online college class.

Please get your guitar "setup" (if needed) in advance so it is in good condition for the class.
You may need to bring it to a store to have it adjusted or to have new strings put on. The most important thing is that it is easy to play and easy to tune. You definitely want a "low action" so that is easy to depress the strings down to the fretboard.
