For your consideration.......I received this from Mr Bill Joyce with the city. He indicated that this would be an option to discourage truck traffic.  I am willing to pursue this if I can get enough support from the community. Please give me some feedback.  Thank you, JaniceThomas

Ms. Thomas

Per your request the Traffic Calming manual is attached.  The manual contains the process for obtaining speed humps.  At this point I would like you to contact Ken Ferrin (#255-8715 copied) with my group and he will look at the roadway section in question to determine if it will qualify, if so you can then begin the petition process for all those benefitting from improvement.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to call me at 255-8762.

Bill

It sounds like this is an opportunity to discourage truck traffic and also slow down all traffic that may be speeding on Chaffee to Beaver. Would it also provide some speed bumps at the east-west intersection of Old Plank where the new Chaffee road ? And also speed bumps for the new Chaffee Road? Let us know if you need to sign a petition.

Thanks

Some time ago, the HOA in Old Plank Plantation talked about speed bumps to slow traffic.  There was some discussions about fire rescue also gets slowed down because of the speed bumps.    I would offer another suggestion.  Could the city reduce the weight limit allowed on the roads.  Instead of just discouraging the traffic, the lower weight limit would make it illegal for the trucks to be down the roads.

Thanks for your response,  Placement hasn't been determined.  My two main worries are approval from the fire dept and cost. (It is a shared cost project) Mr Joyce told me is would be minimal. ???   We'll see.  Have a Merry Christmas and we'll be getting together in January, date to be determined.   Janice

Thanks for your response and input.  Weight restrictions were discussed at the last meeting and I understood them to say that the weight restrictions are state mandated and not flexible. There will be a meeting in January (date not determined) and we can dig deeper into options.  Have a Merry Christmas and I'll see you in January.  Janice
