Our Lady of La Salette

La Salette Retreat Center

September 7 | September 21, 2025

At the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette and the La Salette Retreat Center, September is a blessed month, filled with grace and profound spiritual meaning. Each year, we joyfully recall the tender apparition of Our Blessed Mother to the two young shepherd children, Maximin Giraud and Mélanie Calvat, in the quiet hamlet of La Salette nestled in the French Alps.

For this reason, in this edition of our newsletter, we are pleased to share events and resources to help both young and old draw closer to the message of Our Lady of La Salette, so that her call to reconciliation and hope may continue to inspire hearts today.

Painting by La Salette artist Bro. Donald Wininski, M.S.

LA SALETTE LAITY

INTERNATIONAL DAY

SEPTEMBER 10, 2025 - 12:10 PM

🌍 A Day to Honor La Salette Laity 🌍

On September 10, we join with our Congregation worldwide in celebrating the International Day of the La Salette Laity. This special day is a reminder of the powerful charism born at La Salette, entrusted not only to priests and sisters, but to lay people who live Mary’s message of reconciliation in their daily lives.

At the 12:10 p.m. Mass, we will lift up in prayer all La Salette Laity, especially our faithful community here in Attleboro.

🌿 Be part of this thanksgiving celebration. Join us at Mass.

Ready to live Mary’s call to reconciliation in daily life? Discover our La Salette Laity Group, a welcoming community that prays, learns, and serves together in the spirit of Our Lady of La Salette. You’ll grow in faith, share fellowship, and find practical ways to witness Christ’s mercy where you live and work and at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette.

The group meets every last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Welcome Center of the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette. New members are warmly invited: come, see, and decide.

LA SALETTE RESOURCES

CHILDREN'S SECTION

(click on the title in red to see the resource)

Helping children encounter the message of Our Lady of La Salette can be simple, prayerful, and even fun. This month, we are offering four easy-to-use resources designed especially for little ones. Through a gentle La Salette Comic Strip, children can see the heart of Mary’s message come alive in story form. With a La Salette Prayer Chain for Peace, they can join their prayers to Mary’s call for reconciliation, adding each link as a sign of hope. A one-page La Salette Summary with Coloring Picture introduces them to Mary, Maximin, and Mélanie, making the story of La Salette both memorable and creative. Finally, the La Salette "Tears of Love" Activity helps them understand Mary’s tears and inspires them to respond with kindness and love in their daily lives.

Together, these simple tools invite children not only to learn about La Salette but also to begin living its message in ways that are accessible to their hearts and hands. We warmly encourage you to share these resources with your children, grandchildren, or students, so that the spirit of La Salette may grow in their young hearts.

A special thanks to Chris Austgen, a La Salette Laity from the parish of Mary Queen in Friendswood (TX) for making these resources available.

Discover La Salette: A Message for Every Heart, A Mission for Every Age

(click on the title in red to see the entire article)

The message of Our Lady of La Salette is as urgent and life-giving today as it was in 1846. To help deepen your understanding and prayer, we have gathered resources that explore La Salette’s history, spirituality, and relevance for the challenges of our time.

In From Tears to Hope and La Salette: Simple Yet Profound, we rediscover Mary’s urgent call to conversion and reconciliation, while One Feast, Many Voices: La Salette in the USA shows how her message continues to unite communities across the U.S.

Resources like La Salette – Questions and Answers and La Salette Associates offer insight into both the meaning of Mary's words and the lay men and women who live them out.

Reflections such as Laity As Reconcilers, The La Salette Charism and Today's Laity, La Salette - A Contemporary Charism, and Being Reconcilers Today highlight that reconciliation is the mission of all God’s people, an invitation into true freedom in Christ, where faith, reconciliation, and love shape a new humanity.

Finally, in La Salette and Ecology and La Salette and the New Evangelization, Mary's message takes on new urgency for today, reminding us to care for creation, deepen our faith, and proclaim Christ’s mercy in the world.

Together, these resources show how Mary’s tears at La Salette have become seeds of hope, bearing fruit in faith, service, and renewal.

SUPPORT LA SALETTE VOCATIONS

There is a simple yet profound way to support the Missionaries and the Sisters of Our Lady of La Salette: pray for new La Salette vocations. We invite you to participate in the Traveling Statue of Our Lady of La Salette program, which encourages individuals and families to pray daily for vocations.

Each month, a different household receives the statue and commits to daily prayer that the Lord will raise up new La Salette vocations.
