Dear WESTPA community,

In an ideal world, all of us would be able to get feedback from WE experts on our individual research projects.  This would help users produce the best and most reliable data (which is not trivial with WE or any advanced method!) and also keep the experts informed about user needs and challenges.

So let’s do it!  We (Lillian and Dan) along with some of our group members will make ourselves available for a monthly ‘Data Club’ open for users to present.  This will be a scheduled forum, with 15-20 minute time slots depending on demand.  Presenters will be required to obtain permission from their PIs with an explicit choice as to whether presentations will be open to the full WE/WESTPA community or just to the Chong and Zuckerman groups.

This is a ‘no strings attached’ offer.  There is no expectation for co-authorship for any participants.  Our interest is to see the best science done by WESTPA to keep our community strong.

Please email Lillian (ltc...@pitt.edu) and Dan (zuck...@ohsu.edu) to express your interest in presenting your work and getting feedback through this forum.  Logistical details to follow.

Based on interest from several groups, the WE/WESTPA data review forum will get started.  It will take place the second Weds of every month, starting May 13, from 1:30-3:00 ET (10:30 - 1:00 PT).  Please email me or Lillian if you would like to present May 13 or a future date.  By default, these sessions will be limited to the presenting groups, in addition to the Chong and Zuckerman research groups.  (If you prefer a different arrangement, be sure to let us know in advance.)   We think these will be very useful sessions for everyone involved.

I wanted to remind everyone about this opportunity.  So far we have held two sessions which I think have been quite valuable for folks working on new/new-ish WESTPA projects.  The meetings will be 1:30 ET on 3rd Weds of the month.  We're here to help.  --Dan

We have availability for the Nov 18 data club in case anyone wants to get feedback on their WESTPA project.  These sessions are informal and do not require polished presentations.   See below.   Also, if you'd like to present at a future session, it's fine to reserve a slot now.   --Dan
